CRIPI at WMCCAU 2026 – Successful Conference Participation
CRIPI at WMCCAU 2026: Advancing Climate-Resilient Infrastructure through Collaboration
CRIPI was pleased to successfully participate in the 11th World Multidisciplinary Congress on Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Planning (WMCCAU 2026), held in Ostrava, Czech Republic, from 31 August to 4 September 2026.
The conference provided an excellent platform for the CRIPI community to present research, exchange knowledge, and strengthen international collaboration around climate-resilient and sustainable pavement infrastructure. CRIPI members contributed through dedicated Special Sessions on Climate-Resilient Infrastructure, as well as the poster session.
The CRIPI Special Sessions were chaired by WG6 Leaders Seyed Reza Omranian and Katarzyna Konieczna.
Our members presented research covering a broad range of topics relevant to the CRIPI mission:
• Katarzyna Konieczna – introduced the CRIPI COST Action, presenting its vision and objectives and highlighting the importance of international collaboration in advancing climate-resilient pavement infrastructure.
• Soha Ahmadi – Urban road network resilience under pluvial flooding.
• Gustavo Camara – Structural impact of extreme weather on flexible pavements.
• Stavros Kalampokis – A predictive modelling framework linking BET textural properties to storage stability of bio-modified binders.
• Lu Zhou – Use of spirulina-derived bio-oil for climate-resilient asphalt pavements.
• Ahmet Münir Özdemir – Flow behaviour of bitumen containing encapsulated phase change material.
• Pelin Sertyesilisik – Impact of polypropylene fibres on concrete carbon sequestration.
CRIPI was also represented in the poster session by Leila Cristina W. Muchanga-Hvelplund, who presented research on an integrated automation system for resilience validation of cognitive autonomous pavements.
Beyond the scientific presentations, the conference provided valuable opportunities for CRIPI members to exchange ideas with researchers from different disciplines and countries, establish new connections, and explore opportunities for future collaboration. The participation also helped introduce CRIPI and its activities to a broader international audience beyond the pavement engineering community.
A special thank you to all CRIPI members who contributed to the conference and helped showcase the work of our Action, and to the WMCCAU organisers for providing an engaging multidisciplinary environment for scientific discussion and networking.
The papers and posters presented by CRIPI members at WMCCAU 2026 will soon be available under the KPI tab on the CRIPI website, providing an accessible record of the Action’s scientific contributions and dissemination activities. Aside from that, the Book of Abstracts is available here. Full-text articles will also be published soon in a Scopus- and WoS-indexed journal.
We look forward to building on the connections and ideas generated in Ostrava and continuing our joint efforts towards more sustainable, resilient, and climate-adapted pavement infrastructure.
