Research, policy, and innovation for climate-resilient pavements.

About the initiative
Climatic Resilience Initiative for Pavement Infrastructure (CRIPI) - CA24141
Climate change significantly affects the performance, integrity, resilience, and durability of pavement infrastructure, with wide-ranging implications for safety, sustainability, economic viability, mobility, and system reliability. Addressing these challenges requires a holistic and integrated approach that considers not only material selection but also the overall integrity of pavement systems and construction practices. Poor construction quality can amplify climate-induced damage, underscoring the need for sustainable pavements supported by optimized standards, advanced materials, and innovative monitoring technologies.
Resilience under climate stress
Climate change affects pavement performance, safety, and lifecycle outcomes. CRIPI highlights what matters for integrity, durability, and system reliability.
Sustainable materials & methods
From advanced materials to monitoring and construction quality, we focus on solutions that reduce risk and improve long-term outcomes.
Collaboration across stakeholders
An inclusive platform for knowledge exchange—connecting researchers, practitioners, and societies working on pavement infrastructure worldwide.
CRIPI aims to advance the understanding of climate change impacts on pavements, accelerate the development of resilient and sustainable solutions, and promote the integration of technologies that link pavement materials, construction quality, climatic conditions, and lifecycle performance. Through a collaborative and inclusive platform, CRIPI facilitates knowledge exchange on pavement design, monitoring, performance, resilience, and sustainability. By ensuring access to emerging and established technologies for both ITC and non-ITC countries, and by engaging a wide range of stakeholders and the general public, CRIPI fosters equitable collaboration to address the challenges posed by climate change in pavement infrastructure.
